Disco Tropics
VDj, Video Mapping & Live Visuals Architecture
An immersive visual takeover for Disco Tropics, ranked among the top 23 clubs in the world. For their massive Halloween event, I was tasked with orchestrating a visual atmosphere across a complex network of over 50 LED screens, spanning columns, walls, and ceilings.
This project was not just about creating video; it was about designing a synchronized ecosystem where perspective, rhythm, and technology converged to elevate the clubbing experience.
The venue required a «modular» visual system rather than a linear video. I created a suite of looped, layered assets specifically tailored for the club’s architectural layout. The goal was to transform the physical space using light and motion, ensuring the visuals could sustain the energy of a multi-hour party without becoming repetitive.
The primary challenge was Spatial Complexity. Designing for a fragmented canvas of 50 screens meant I had to consider perspective and depth. Specifically for the ceiling-mounted screens, I played with forced perspective to create an illusion of 3D depth above the dancefloor. Technically, the hurdle was synchronization: creating a pipeline where assets generated in After Effects would map perfectly onto the physical layout in Resolume, ensuring every pixel was in the right place.
My objective was Automated Synchronization. I didn’t want a static loop; I wanted a reactive environment. I set up the entire mapping and triggering system within Resolume to link the visual layers to the music’s rhythm and effects. The goal was to build a robust system where clips, transitions, and strobes triggered naturally and flawlessly, creating a «live» feel that reacted to the DJ’s performance.
The result was a visually captivating, perfectly timed immersive journey. The automation worked without error, delivering a seamless integration of sound and vision. It demonstrated that technical precision—in mapping and coding the connections—is the backbone of high-energy creative design in live entertainment.
