MONEY VORTEX

An experimental visualization of despair in a chaotic, material world. Created for Clint Jones’s (@pwnisher) Community 3D Challenge, this project depicts a vertiginous freefall into a singularity of greed.

From the edge of a skyscraper, the viewer witnesses a character consumed by a glowing, swirling tornado of cash. The piece explores the concept of inevitable collapse, where the city and its inhabitants are swallowed by the very thing they chase.

Challenges & Objectives

/ Project Overview

This project was an exercise in constrained creativity. Adhering to the strict camera and compositional requirements of the challenge, I focused on verticality and depth. The scene serves as a narrative loop, using the environment to tell a story of urban isolation and the overwhelming force of the «money storm.»

/ Challenges

The technical core of this piece was fluid chaos. I utilized TyFlow within 3ds Max to simulate the physics of thousands of individual bills, creating a tornado that felt both organic and mathematically volatile. Another major hurdle was the character animation; I implemented a Motion Capture base to establish realistic human motion, but extensive manual polishing was required to capture the specific weightlessness and resignation of the body during the fall.

/ Objectives

My goal was to bridge the gap between raw simulation and cinematic art. I wanted to move beyond a simple particle test and create a mood. This required a heavy focus on Post-Production and compositing. The objective was to grade the green glow to feel toxic and consuming, rather than just bright, unifying the V-Ray render passes into a cohesive, grim atmosphere.

/ Final Outcome

The result is a hypnotic, high-energy loop that balances complex physics simulations with emotive storytelling. It demonstrates how technical tools like TyFlow can be directed artistically to visualize abstract concepts like greed and desperation, all within a rigorous production timeline.
